Binky Fairy

Yes, with all that is going on, we were able to rid Miss J of the binkys. We had wanted to do this prior to the birth of JW, but when she started clinging on to it more and more as security and with all the changes that were going to be happening, we kind of nixed it from our "to do" list. She only used it at night, never walked around with it or had it for naps at school. But one morning when she woke up at 4:30am yelling "binky, binky", my DH said, "you know, we really have to get her to get rid of that binky!!". So I walked into her room at 4:30 that morning, and we talked. I asked her if she would like to give her binky's to the binky fairy? We could put them in an envelope and put them in the mail box to send to the binky fairy who would LOVE to get her binky's. And in return she might get something back in the mail from the binky fairy. To my amazement, she hopped right on the bandwagon and wanted to go get an envelope. She had so much fun saying envelope...I think really that was the reason she gave them up...but whatever the "real" reason. We made an envelope, put it in the mail box...and voila...she has not had a binky since. That was over a week ago!!

Now I can't say she doesn't ask about them...but is quick to say that the binky fairy is holding them for her. She has been a little tough to get to sleep some nights. I think she tosses and turns a little bit and is unsettled, but never cries for her binky or asks for them back. I think it is a huge step. Oh, and in return, the binky fairy sent her a Curious George DVD, so we don't have to record all the episodes on the DVR. She was happy.

Now I just wish my mom was on board with it...she tried to do the same thing with the binky at her house for when Miss J stays the night...but the minute Miss J buckled and cried for it back, my mom gave it right back to her. In my mom's opinion, why should we take something away from her that gives her comfort? Um, such a grandma thing to say, huh!
Some more pics to tide you over for awhile.

I love that binky fairy idea. I think I saw that on Supernanny and we will eventually do that with Chloe. She only has them at night and nap time, never walking around, but eventually they need to go!

Good job Miss J!

That's such a good idea! We've got to start getting Cade off the paci. The paci is his best friend! It's not going to be an easy task. He does carry one everywhere with him usually. I've tried to keep it away from him during the day and just give it for sleeping times but he seems to have a stash somewhere and always manages to find one! We'll probably give it until after the first of the year and then start working on getting rid of it...I'm not looking forward to it because he can't fall asleep without it!
