In the hallway...

...surrounded by pillows and blankets. That is where we were last night for about 1/2 hour during the storm. The tornado sirens went off and my stomach dropped. I have had this fear, now that we have a child, about what we would do if a tornado came through our town. We live on a slab (no basement), and don't really have an interior room except the hallway. Which isn't much protection if something comes through, but you know it is the safest place in the house when that is where your cat goes to dwell when there is a storm.

So, the power went off first, then the sirens went off, we took Miss J into the hallway (she was already a bit frightened and cuddled in my arms because of the storm that was coming through). DH went to get pillows, blankets, and some necessities in case something did come through (I would not have even thought about getting my purse, cell phone, car keys, etc...what a good daddy!) So we were there for about a 1/2 hour before the sirens turned off. It was kind of cute, the three of us, Miss J in my lap all cuddled up surrounded by pillows, with a little flashlight, just listening.

Miss J, yup, fell asleep (something about loud noises that put her to sleep, just like the fireworks at the 4th of July) I guess that was good because it was her bedtime anyway and lets us know she wasn't too scared (little did she know I was a bit scared sh#%less!!) So we then put her in her bed and she was out like a light. Slept through the rest of the storm.

Lights were out for about another hour or so. We sat on the couch checking out the storm, then realized we should probably do something constructive...like read or talk or something to spend this nice carved out time together. Thinking back...we really should have had some "bedroom" time together...but I have been so exhausted it is hard to get in the mood. He would have been soo gungho about it. So, we read magazines instead. That was OK, we were spending some time together.

DH's comment, "This is the last time I come home from work early!!" Haa, I know, the first time in weeks he is home for dinner and to be with his family and we spend it in the hallway in the dark! Haaa.

Anyway, another night where we get to have dinner together and maybe go for a walk!! I would enjoy that. Then tomorrow, MIL comes out to watch Miss J for the day. The start of the grandma's watching her during the week. I think that will be a nice change for Miss J, and MIL will really enjoy spending some time with her granddaughter. My mom sees Miss J a lot, but MIL hasn't had much of a chance lately. This will be good for her.

I bought some finger paints, new stickers, and new scratch pad for them to do some artwork together. Hopefully it will be nice and they can play outside in the sandbox and pool and sprinkler (Wednesdays are water day at school, so Miss J is used to getting her swimsuit on and playing in the water). I think it will be a fun day for them.

OK, off to work and do my job!!

It is a good thing that your DH was able to be home early enough to protect you and Miss J during the storm! I'm so glad you all are ok.

We have spent a couple of afternoons or evenings in the hallway with Emma. She thinks it is a game :-) Me......not so much! Glad DH was there with you too. Hope tonight goes a little more 'calmly'!

The weather was so scary! I've never been so worried about getting hit by a tornado before. We didn't actually hear any sirens or lose electricity, so that was good. Plus, even if we did, I'm not sure where we would have gone because there really isn't a "center" of our house. I was really freaked out. We went out last night and our waiter told us there was a tornado that touched down about a mile from where we live. Scary.

I'm glad you guys are okay!
