I had lunch with a co-worker and her sister in law who has a 3-month old baby boy. Ooooo, how cute he was, and tiny, and helpless, and....cute!! I really forgot how small they can be. So small they can fit in the length of your forearm. So small that they can barely hold their head up. So small they can't hold themselves up in any manner, head, legs, arms. But their small smooth head and soft skin, and those tiny fingers that wrap right around your huge finger.
Ahhh...I was nervous about having BP2 and forgetting how small and helpless they can be, but when I bent down to see little C and he smiled with this open mouth gummy grin...I found peace. No longer scared, excited!!
Miss J...oh, what a doll, and a handfull all in one. She has officially started her "testing" phase. Testing her boundaries, testing how far she can really push mommy and daddy. It is funny, and stressful all at the same time!!
Wednesday at dinner, she was tapping her fork on the table (which we have told her numerous times NOT to do because she often scratches up the table...not to mention it is annoying!!). So I tell her no, and that forks are to eat with.
So what does she do? Turns the fork upside down and proceeds to tap the opposite end on the table. "Miss J, what did I just say, please do not tap your fork on the table."
Next...she proceeds to tap the fork on the placemat. "Miss J, forks are to eat with, and if you don't stop tapping it I am going to take it away."
"Noooo." That is her new famous 21 month old word!!
So she proceeds to tap it on her plate, then on her cup.
Seriously. Does she need that fine line of a boundary?? I guess so, because I took the fork away and we were then done with dinner.
I guess I can laugh a bit now, but at the time I was ready to pull my hair out...with her fork!!
Oh, here is another one. Sometimes, rather than using the words "No, Miss J," I try to give her that look like, "you know better than that...don't you dare."
She looks at me, laughing, and continuing to do whatever she is not supposed to be doing.
I continue to give her that "look", very serious faced.
She stops laughing, and gives me that "look" right back, very serious faced...like...really mom, you want a stare down...oh I will give you a staredown.
At that point, I cannot help but bust out laughing, which of course defeats the entire point.
Again, laughing now, but man, she knows how to butter my corn.
Oh, the joys of toddlerhood. Terrible twos if you want to call it that, though I don't think that stage has really begun yet.
Memorial day weekend...we plan to set up a big girl bed for Miss J. Yippee...hope she feels the same way. New, fun, endeavors...I am sure I will have some fun stories about that.
Have a great long weekend!

Chloe has already learned to shake her head No... I am not looking forward to when she can actually Say No!
Oh my goodness! Great stories! Thanks for sharing. :-)
Yeah, I'm not looking forward to the terrible two's. Maddy's driving me crazy already with her little attitude. lol
Have a great weekend!
Ah, yes! The twos are a fun age;) Challenging in every sense of the word, yet so joyous and rewarding, too.
I'm sure Miss J will love her big girl bed! Ethan slept so well once he transitioned into one.
Hope you are having a great weekend. Can't wait to hear about your U/S news on Wednesday!!

19w4d - r u finding out the sex?!
I know what you mean about the look! I try my hardest to give Mackenna that look (and not laugh). And when I'm giving the look and she's laughing at me, it makes me even madder. But then when she does get serious and gives me the look back (sometimes she does it), then I'm trying not to break down in laughter myself! I can't wait til the look actually works. :o) You will have to let me know how she does with a big girl bed! I'm so nervous about putting Mackenna in a big girl bed. Take care!
