Zumba

Thank you ladies for your wonderful comments (and support). I knew I was not the only one...but really needed to know there were others out there and what do YOU do. You gave me some good ideas, and hope, and I loved what Maria D. had to share on her blog.

Thank you!

And you will be happy to know...or not...could be TMI...but I put one effort into action last night. And as always, it takes awhile to get in the mood, but once there, no regrets!! Just have to "push" myself more often!

I just got back from my exercise class here at work. They offer some classes in our gym during lunch...which is really cool. Last year it was mainly stretch and tone, yoga, and Turbo Kick once a month. This year...we have added Butts and Gutts, and Zumba.

Zumba was today. Does anyone know what Zumba is? Has anyone taken Zumba? I am not sure about it yet. It is like a salsa, rumba, shake your hips kind of class. I thought it would be fun, I thought maybe I could get my groove back....

Break...let me explain that...

I used to be a "Hip House Junkie" back in the old days! Yes, girls, I could jive and grind and hip hop with the best of them. We went clubbing ALL the time in High School, College, and even into my grown up years. I would have soo much fun, I could shake those hips and legs and chest...nothing I couldn't/wouldn't try.

Some how, that has faded. It is explainable...I used to dance like that for attention. Attention from boys. I also enjoyed dancing itself, but realized later on that it was mainly to get the attention of the opposite sex. Once I became a Christian, and started dating my now husband...I realized that I could not honestly go out to a dance club without the potential of drawing the opposite sex to me (not trying to be vain here)...and since I didn't know where to draw the line...I would get myself in trouble. With this realization, I decided to draw the line before going out...so as not to have to try to draw the line once I got into the situation.

I digress...whatever the reason...I used to dance ALL the time. I used to love it. I used to be able to shake my hips and gyrate all around.

Back to Zumba...I SUCK!! What the heck happened to those hips girl? What happened to that grove? I have neither. I don't know how to move my hips except like I am strapped to a board. I looked pathetic. Not to mention, TRYING to shake your hips in front of your co-workers...uh...yeah...a little uncomfortable.

But...I am willing to give it another try. I have a rule of thumb to try things at least twice before I give up. So, I will try it again next month. I will see if my hips loosen up or if that board remains strapped to my back.

It was fun, but weird. Anyone else have that type of experience?

On another note. I dressed Miss J in another dress today. Yes...Mrs. BFW...I am sticking to our little pact. To dress our girls in dresses, not just for Church or special occasions, but for every day school too. We have all these dresses that we bought for our girls, but they won't be wearing them except for those rare occasions...and most likely just once. That seems silly. Why not wear them more often? So that is what we agreed we were going to do. Dress our girls in, well, dresses more often.

I will post the pictures later...but just wanted to challenge all you other ladies to do the same. With your girls or boys. Dress them up more often rather than just those special occasions. And...take a picture of them...post them. It will be fun to see your kids all "dolled up".

Have a great week!!

How cool that you have an exercise class at work!

How cool! I just started doing that with my kids too! They go to school EVERY day, that don't have to go looking like homeless people!

Thanks for "delurking"!

P.S. I didn't comment on your previous post, but I agree with everbody, the best thing is to JUST DO IT! LOL

Good for you for JUST DOING IT!! Mike and I are two for two on the weekends! TMI, I know!!!

I love to go dancing and use to go out all the time with my friends. I actually met my husband at a bar/club!!! Not so much these days. Good for you for taking that class at work!! I don't know if I would have been that brave!!! It might take a while, but I am sure you will get your grove back!!! It is just like riding a bike!!!

I am going to take your suggestion about the dress thing. Once I do I will post a pic!!!

Have a great week!!

I had to laugh at your dancing story. I am so much the same. I used to do the clubbing/dancing thing for the same reason. Then i met Anthony and gained weight and stopped going. I'm 100% positive I would be the exact same way if I tried to dance again! LOL Oh, and I have been dressing Mackenna up in dresses and taking pictures too! I think of you every time I do it too. :o) I finally have them on the computer at home so I will have to post them some time soon. :o) Have a great evening!

That class sounds like fun! Maybe you just have to get back into the groove.

I've decided we need to put Maddy in more dresses too. She's only worn most of her dresses once! I'll be sure to take some pictures.

Your Zumba experience sounds too funny. I can totally relate though. It's amazing how time, marriage, and children can change you. I, for instance, have less tolerance for pain NOW than I did BEFORE I had Jackson. What's up with that? It makes no sense...sad but true.

I hope you can get your groove back in next months class!!!
