A size WHAT!!!

I know, second post of the day...but I had to share this story because it makes me laugh and feel so bad all at the same time.

Miss J got her first pair of Stride Rite shoes back in August (just before my FIL funeral). I was so happy she got a real pair of shoes, and they were cute and I wanted her to wear them with everything! They were a 4 1/2 and I thought they were HUGE on her. But then she grew into them.

I proceeded to find another cheapie pair of shoes that were a size 5 and I thought they were huge on her so I would be sure she wore her thick socks when she wore the shoes so that her feet wouldn't slip out of them.

The past few weeks I have felt like she should get some new shoes, maybe bigger, like size 5 of 5 1/2. Plus, I knew Stride Rite was having a GREAT sale (like 50% or more). I wasn't able to take Miss J, but measured her foot with a ruler thinking I could have them measure it on their little measurer thingy m'bob and give me an idea what size she was.

So I took the measure in...and lo and behold, they told me she was a size 6. WHAT?!?!? No way, can't be. Her foot has been fitting fine into the size 4 1/2 and 5 shoes she has. She can't be a size 6.

Then the lady proceeded to tell me that since baby's feet are mostly cartilidge, while they seem to fit into the shoe, odds are they are cramped and buckled up inside of the shoe and you wouldn't really know the difference. She also told me about a woman who had her children consistenly in shoes that were 3-sizes too small for her kids because she didn't know any better and thought the shoe fit.

Yeah...so now I feel like a bad mommy. Tring to cram her little (big) foot into a size 4 1/2 shoe when she should be in a size 6.

I still didn't believe it until I brought the shoes home and put them on Miss J. Yup...fit great. She didn't even stumble while walking becuase they were too long on her foot. She got right up like they were flip flops on her or something.

Needless to say, I felt bad (but laughing a bit inside) and since they had a bunch on sale...I bought two pair for her. Basic tie up tennis shoe...goes with everything!

This way my favorite...this was the very first shoe I picked out back in August, got a size too small, and exchanged it for a tennis shoe. But now, this $46 shoe is $20. BARGAIN!!

I have had so many of those bad mommy moments!!! Love the shoes!! I am going to have to go by stride rite and check out the sale. Mia has two pair, but I paid full price. What a bummer!!! Thanks for the tip!! Have you checked out 6pm.com They have really cute kids (and grown up shoes) at really good prices!!!

Don't feel bad - I did the same thing to Emma. Once summer and sandle weather hit, I couldn't believe that she went up two sizes so fast. Then I found out about the cartilage thing.....which explained why I thought her size 4 sandles would fit, but her toes of course fell off the front of them. By the end of the summer - she was wearing a size 6!!! Did I learn my lesson - NOPE! I did it to her again this past summer! Maybe I will do better this year!

Now I'm wondering if Mackenna's feet might be crammed into shoes that are too small! Agh! LOL How are you supposed to know besides going to a Stride Rite? I guess I could measure her foot and then measure her shoes and see what the difference is. I usually hold her foot up to the outside of the shoe and see where her toes end. I wonder if that is sufficient enough. ??? Huh, that's sort of funny. :o) I'm glad you told me/us that! By the way, I put Mackenna in a dress today for daycare and took a picture before I left the house this morning! LOL The goofing begins. :o)

CUTE shoes! Don't feel bad about the size thing! If she wasn't complaining, it couldn't have been too bad! (That's always been my theory anyway...)
