Receiving

Mother's Day was just wonderful. I really did not expect it to be a big deal. I mean, Mother's day is every year. I have celebrated it with my mother, grandmother, with my in-law's, with my boyfriends mothers (in the past of course). I just figured it would be another year, another Hallmark holiday gone by with lots of cards to show for it (did I mention that my in-laws have stock in Hallmark!!)

Was I wrong.

The weekend turned out to be just perfect. Beginning Friday night. I went out with a few friends after work to have a couple of drinks. DH picked up Miss J from school and brought her home to get ready for bed. Drinks were nice...it was a fun time and nice to be out and enjoy the weather. Got home, dad was feeding Miss J and then she had some tricks to show me. She is scooting ladies!! Not crawling, but scooting, on her left upper thigh. She pulls herself forward with her hands and her right leg out in front. It is soooo cute. I was so proud of my girl. What a perfect Mother's day gift (yea, until she starts getting into stuff then I will wish she were NOT mobile again).

Saturday, DH had to work, so Jos and I spent time relaxing in the house until after her first nap. Then we went out to run errands and spend some time at the Common's shopping mall (outdoor). I got my favorite sandwich and soup at Corner Bakery, sat outside and drank some yummy iced tea. Then my be-fri (best friend) met me and we got a Jamba Juice and did some fun shopping. It was fun to hang with her, it has been forever since we have gotten together.

Saturday night, we went out to dinner. DH, Jos, and I. First time out to dinner, as a family, where Jos got to sit in a high chair and eat food rather than sitting in her car-seat and having a bottle. It went sooo well. She was having a blast checking out all the people and waving (yes, she now waves and claps!! - it was a big week for firsts!!). I was amazed how much she ate with how distracted she was with everyone. She was sooo good though. She tried chicken, corn, and fish - along with her cereal and veg. Then went home and finished it off with a full bottle. Where did that tummy come from??

Sunday, Jos slept in a bit and the whole day went so perfect and smoothly. Sometimes, if we miss a beat on Sunday, we end up not making it to church and everything else gets off key. Not this week. Got up, fed Jos, and they gave me my Mother's Day card and gift. It was so sweet, they gave me a mother and daughter pendant with a Sapphire stone and a beautiful chain (I really needed a chain for some of the other pendants I have...so that was a gift all itself). The pendant was so tasteful and pretty and white gold (which I love). I was so impressed that DH picked it out all on his own...and did an awesome job at it too.

Then off to church, we were actually a bit early if not right on time. And during the worship songs, all the promiseland kids came out on stage and on the big screens it said "Thank you mom..." and the kids were all holding signs that said things like "for changing my diapers", "for praying with me", "for wiping my tears", "for making me dinner"...I just balled. All I could imagine was Miss J up there, holding up her sign for me, saying "Thank you for being my mom". Sob, sob, as I tear up now just thinking about it. That was the most moving thing for me...and that is when it really hit me how important being a mom is to your kids and your family. I have always been on the other end...showing my appreciation and wondering how they received it and did I tell them enough how important they are to me. Now, it was my turn to receive the appreciation...and WOW, did if feel amazing. I hope every year I feel the same thing.

Then off to my mother's house. Spent some time there, then went to Lowe's to pick out some flowers for our flower beds. That was nice, since I was not sure if we were going to be able to see my mom at all that day (long story...but it turned out good, so no need to tell it). Then, off to the the in-laws. Which was nice, and we actually left there at a decent hour, was able to make it home to put Miss J to bed, clean up a bit, and spend some time cuddling on the couch.

Ahhhh, perfect weekend. I wish all weekends flowed like this one! Praise God for the blessing of the weekend, and for the blessing of all mothers alike!!
