Appointments and Doctors

So, I feel like we have a solution. We visited the ENT yesterday for Miss J, and he said right away that she was a candidate for ear tubes. He did a hearing test, which she passed with colors, and then got the information about the surgery for the tubes. Only about a 15 minute surgery, and it sounds like it takes longer for them to come out of the anesthesia than it does to have the actual surgery. So, that sounds pleasant. I just need to make the appt now.

I think it is a viable and reasonable solution with all the ear infections she has had over the past 5-months and the amount of anti-biotics she has been on. And it dawned on me just now, that maybe one of the reasons she seems to have a persistant runny nose and cough is because she has been on the anti-biotics for so long. So it started with a cold, turned into an ear infection and the cycle has never stopped. We hope the tubes will stop the cycle and get her through the rest of this winter season and through next year before they fall out. That would be so nice. I feel like I have been going to the doctor for her every two weeks...umm...I have!!

I also got allergy test result back for Miss J and she is not allergic to anything!! Not even cockroaches (I think it is funny they test for that!). So, the cold is not because of any known common allergies to the environment or food...yea, we don't have to get rid of the dog and cat!!! I know DH secretly wished she was allergic to the cat...he has been waiting patiently for the cat to pass away in its sleep (ha).

Oh, then on to my appt. Yea, well, pretty much a waste of time in my opinion. Except to get the goodie bag of stuff that when I walk out of the office cries "I AM PREGNANT!!!!" I met with the nurse practitioner, which was fine, and she asked me how I felt, when my LMP was and if I had any questions. I gave her my symptoms:

cramping (not any more)
a little bit of naseau, but I remember that from #1 and it didn't last long
light headedness
mettallic tast in my mouth (just started this week...and....yuk)
a bit of brownish discharge last week

She didn't seem concerned or did she offer any suggestions for anything but the discharge. I didn't have any cramping, and it wasn't bright red or heavy or anything...but it was enough have her schedule an u/s. Which makes me wonder if they wouldn't otherwise schedule an u/s until later on? I don't know. But I have one scheduled for next Wednesday!!!

I asked her about meds I can/can't take, calcium, vitamin C, echinacia, etc. And then I told her my perdicament about my due date/conception date. And I don't think she got it becuase she told me she thought I was pg based on my LMP date and not before and that when I took the first HPT just after my gyne appt in January, that it was too early. And I thought...how could it be too early if I conceived in December and my period in January wasn't really a "real" period but a lighter version. Oh, I don't know. But she is convinced the due date would be October 10th. I guess we will know a lot better after the u/s.

She also gave me a script to have another blood draw...which again I don't get. When I was in to see the gyne in mid January, I thought I felt pregnant so they wrote me a script to get a blood draw in case my HPT did come back positive. Since it didn't, until after I missed my Feb period, I used it on Feb 7th. Came back postive and all. But they still want me to go for another one. OK, don't get that...but I guess they want to check my levels again to be sure they have gone up. Don't remember that last time, but, go with what the doc says. Makes me wonder if maybe they weren't high enough...or maybe it was so early on that they weren't high enough and they just want to make sure they have elevated like they are supposed to. Oh, I don't know...stop worrying yourself little LP.

So this bag of stuff...so pathetic. I already have a 3-month supply of pre-natals...but they gave me like 5 samples of some more. Plus a little daybook calendar like thing (which was pretty cool), and the goofiest list of do's/dont's. To me...all way to obvious...but maybe not to everyone. And a magazine...which I have from #1, must not be too far out of date. So, disappointed at the least.

The thing I find the funniest about going to the doc is when they weigh you. Come on...is that thing REALLY accurate?? It was like 8-10 lbs HEAVIER than when I weigh myself, at home, in the morning, naked. Do my clothes and the food I ate throughout the day really make an 8lb difference?? Blows my mind. So, I am keeping track of my weight on my own...not by what their scale says. Come on...I am supposed to gain a pound a week during the first trimester...but, if their scale could be off a few pounds because of the different clothes I wore that day or what I ate (I could be bloated), then what does that really tell me or them?? So wrong. So I will keep track on my own...not to mention, it just makes you depressed to see the scale that high...doesn't it!!

OK, enough of my soapbox...all is good. DH is getting better, my back is still improving, and hopefully we are on the road to healthy with Miss J.

I'm glad you get your ultrasound next week. Then you can see the baby and find out when you are due. I was really relieved to have mine. Glad to hear that your family is recovering and that Miss J isn't allergic to cockroaches or the kitty! :)

Hopefully the ultrasound will give you a better idea of how far you are. The one thing I'm not looking forward to when we do have the next one is all the blood work...the vampires!

What great news that Miss J isn't allergic to anything and hopefully the tubes will break this vicious cycle that you all have been on. Don't you just love it when you leave the dr's office with more questions than when you got there. But at least they scheduled you an ultrasound for next week. Around here it is standard practice to have one when you are 8-10 weeks along, which is nice, but at that point your baby looks more like a little alien child. :-) Keep us posted!

It was good to hear an update from you! Yes, seeing a number that high whether PG or not, would be disappointing to anyone. LOL :o) At least all is well in the P home. When I was PG with Mackenna, I had three or four blood draws at the beginning. But then, they thought I was having a miscarriage and as they did blood draws, they saw my HCG levels rising. Maybe since the beginning was so iffy, that's what they want to do. ??? Who knows, just be thankful they're erring on the side of caution. :o) Take care!

Awww, poor Miss J, having to get tubes in her ears. I hope that it makes her feel better though! And I think it's pretty common to get that done so hopefully it's not a huge deal. Sorry your pregnancy bag wasn't that great, that's a little bit of a let-down!

I'm glad Miss J isn't allergic to anything and hopefully the tubes will help and she'll feel a little better.

I agree that the goodie bags are a joke. The magazines I got in mine were almost a year old. How exciting that you get to have an ultrasound done next week?!

I always hated weigh-in time at my doctor appointments. I always wore my lightest clothes flip flops so I could take them off before weighing :)

I'm glad you have found a solution to Miss J's sicknesses! Hopefully the tubes help and she is not sick anymore!

Oooh, ultrasound is tomorrow! How exciting!! Hopefully they'll be able to tell you exactly how far along you are since there seems to be some discrepancy there. Have fun! Let us know how it goes!!!
