Does anyone watch TLC? Has anyone seen: "I Can Make You Thin with Paul Mckenna"? I watched his first episode last night (OK, part of it, I ended up falling asleep), but it was pretty interesting. He talked about the secrets of naturally thin people (I just thought they never ate!!) and the 4 Golden Rules.
So, today at lunch I decided to try it (mainly because when he was talking about #3 my husband gave me that glare which said "are you listening to this?"). I guess I have a habit of inhaling my food...it is sooooo gooood!!!
So the rule is that when you sit down to eat...you are completely focused on eating and nothing else. How often do you sit down to eat (or stand) and you are watching TV, reading a book, typing on the computer, driving...whatever. But you are not completely focused on the food and eating. Then, you take one bite, put down your fork and knife, and chew. Feel the texture in your mouth and enjoy the food. Chew it at least 20 times before you swallow and take another bite. Not only does this slow you down, but it makes you more aware of your hunger and when you are really full. This may feel weird (and it did to me), but you get used to it.
OK, so I am thinking...but I need to shovel the food into my mouth so that I can get that flavor all throughout my mouth before I swallow it, then once I swallow, the next bite is coming right in because the first one was so good and I didn't get to really taste it so I shovel the next one in. Then all of a sudden the food is gone, because I was not focused on what I was actually eating and then I want more...so I find something else like dessert or get more food...then after the fiasco is done I feel like crap and my stomach hurts and I regret what I just ate.
Well, duh...so he mentioned that after you do this technique for awhile, your tastes may actually change. And I am thinking...uh, yeah, the food won't taste as good and I won't get as much satisfaction out of it because I am not shoveling it in so fast that I actually forget to taste. He also said that when you eat so fast like that, the sugars and carbs actually give you a high so you keep shoveling it in faster and faster to keep that high. Hmmm, makes sense. So once you slow down, that food you loved to eat a whole plate of, you might only want a couple bites because it doesn't taste as good as it used to and thus you eat less!!!
His website seems to have more tips, I have not checked them all out, but will pass the site on to you: McKenna.com
I know we are all on the path to eating healthier and getting thinner...so I thought I would pass this info on to you to explore yourselves. I would love to hear your thoughts and if you watched any episodes or tried any of his tips. He takes a new twist on how to reprogram your mind to eat less and better. You can still have your favorite foods, you just won't want to eat plates and plates of it!! Pretty cool.

I've heard that before, but I also seem to scarf my food. I can't help it!
I totally believe that eating slower makes you thinner. I look at my DH for an example. He's naturally thin and eats slower than molassass in january. I started eating slower myself- along with eating better in general and I've lost nearly 50lbs. Also having a support system really really helps.
I'm so terrible at shoveling food while eating! I'm going to try the 4 Golden Rules and check out the website. Thanks for posting the info!
Hope you had a wonderful Easter with Miss J and are feeling well!
P.S Thanks for your feedback on my party dilemma! I really appreciate it:)
I am definitely going to check out the website! I eat way too fast without even thinking about it.It seems like everyone in my family does it.
Thanks for sharing, it makes greta sense if I can just put it into practice!
